April 10. Blackfoot made it through the night medical evacuation without incident. I survived the painful swelling of the hornet stings and was able to wear a steel pot again. Son–in-Law survived the heroin overdose and was on the fire base, dealing with his addiction. Unfortunately, he would return to the field once he was released for duty.
Bravo Company was extracted to Fire Base Fontaine and convoyed to Fire Base Mace to prepare for our first trip to China Beach. Bravo Company would spend the night on the base and fly to China Beach in the morning. Knowing the company would return to Fire Base Fontaine to pull base security duty made the trip to China Beach even more enjoyable.
